The worst day I had in school ocurred in May of last year. I only went to Englishville for a week or two, and I was already picking up trash along Alpine. I didn't even volunteer to do it, either. It was Rob who volunteered me. So, right after lunch, they dropped us off at the end of 10 Mile. We had to wear the orange vests and grubby gloves and hold trash bags between my partner and I. The heat seemed unbearable to me, even though I was drinking lots of water, and my feet were aching from walking on the slant of the ditch. It was so surprising to me to actually see how much trash there really is along side the road. It was sad. |
| It was embarassing, too, because people were driving by and beeping the horn as we were picking up all their trash that they threw out. In a way I felt like a prisoner doing community service. We weren't getting paid, we weren't getting a grade, just 10 points extra credit. By the time we reached the end of the two-mile stretch, I was so happy, yet so tired. My partner and I were the slackers of the group, but I felt kinda proud that we did something really good for the environment. It was a really good cause, but also my worst day of school. |
